Death
Elizabeth died in the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital
in 1961.
Elizabeth was an exceptional needlewoman and she especially
enjoyed painting and sketching. For most of her life she couldn't
afford canvases or good quality art materials so she would use
whatever was to hand, often painting on the backs of canvas
book covers or sketching with pencil on the back of a letter.
Her needlework was just stunning. When I was a child she
made the most astonishing doll clothes for me. They were not at all
ordinary but rather were finely stitched, sequined, ruffled and tucked....
all little works of art. Each Christmas there would be a new
doll with an entirely new handmade wardrobe. She not only
created a wonderfully special gift each year but, more significantly,
she created memories for a lifetime.
